Sean Carlock has been entertaining since age six. Theater, Magic, and — in the last decade — Clowning have always been his passion. The only thing he loves more than Clowning is talking about and teaching Clowning to others. Sean draws from his magic and theater background as well as his time as a Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey clown to bring you his spin on the world of clowning.

In Sean’s own words: I started my entertainment career as a magician. Over the years I have performed magic, theater, and clowning. I have never considered myself to be a magician, actor or a clown. I am an entertainer that uses these things to achieve my goal of entertaining an audience. Shortly after I began clowning I met Jim Howle at a clowning convention and he suggested I give Ringling a call. He put me in touch with them and I spent the next year of my life touring the country with the Greatest Show on Earth. It was a great learning experience and the first real training I had ever had access to. Since Ringling I have gone on to a career of full time clowning and teaching all over the US. I am honored to be on the Mooseburger Camp staff. It is very rewarding to be able to work with the campers that come each year. I love seeing the excitement on their faces as they pull up each year. There is nowhere else to receive the amount of training, from the caliber of instructors, which is available at Mooseburger Camp. If there is anything that the past 20+ years of performing has taught me it is to surround yourself with successful people in your field. Mooseburger Camp is the perfect place to do that.
I wish I had known about Moose Camp when I was getting started, it would have made the journey so much easier.
2019 Main Course: Advanced Show Creation
This course will give you the opportunity to walk out of Moose Camp with a full, ready-to-rehearse show complete with introductions and music pre-recorded puppet scripts, and the confidence to get out there and do it. This clinic will help you put it all together in a cohesive way that will boost your professional image. This is not just for clowns! This could be for magicians, jugglers, or other comedy stage acts! You must provide all of the material and props needed to do the show. This means you either have to drive with a car full of awesome to camp (ROAD TRIP!) or box it up ahead of time and mail it. We will do little to no actual writing of material. Intros and possibly puppet scripting for recording purposes but you MUST have 5 to 10 solid pieces already written. They can be interactive songs or stories or magic tricks or a juggling routine, etc, etc. This will take some work and prior planning on your part but will be WELL worth the effort!
* Course size is limited to the first 5 students who register for it
2019 Afternoon Workshops
It’s Magic! (Sean Carlock) Wed. 4:00
For the first time ever, Sean will present an exciting array of tricks that you can do on stage or on the go. Then, he will break the ‘magician’s code’ and show you how it’s done. Mind reading, prediction, ropes, sponge balls, cards, classic illusions, tear/cut and restore paper, penetration, levitation, and more! The only way to find out what he is revealing is to come to the workshop! Sean’s not a dealer so he’s not going to sell you anything, but if you’re lucky he might have some handouts for free. He also says that a lot of these things can be purchased in the dealer room, even though he isn’t getting a kickback.
Super Science Show for Under $100 (Sean Carlock) Thurs. 1:45
You don’t have to break the bank to do a super science show. There lots of cool, fun, Science related things you can do (in or out of clown) to put together a show or program. We’ll look at 4 – 6 different ‘tricks’ that involve real world magic (aka Science) and various ways to present them. Come see how some of the simplest things, presented well, can really have a big pay off.
Character Development Through Improv (Sean Carlock) Fri. 2:00
It is said the best improvisation is well rehearsed. Sean will show you how improvisation can be used in your clowning, not just to entertain but as a tool to strengthen your interactions with your clients and your audience and to build and develop a character. Come play and learn.
