A long-standing tradition on the circus: when it is your birthday, you get a pie in the face. Of course, the fun comes with trying to AVOID the pie! Here is my darling daughter, Julia, getting her first official circus pie in the face on her 19th birthday this week.
My most memorable birthday pie happened when I was on the circus in 1984. We were in Phoenix, Arizona and I had made it safely to my dressing room without a pie in the face. I was sure I was in the clear until they called my name. I peaked out the curtain to see an image of MYSELF in make-up and costume!!! That’s right. One of the clowns (Christopher Hudert) was wearing MY make-up and costume. I was so surprised, I walked out of my dressing room…and right into a pie in the face!
Oh, those were the days!
If you’ve ever wanted to get a pie in the face, come to Moose Camp. Greg DeSanto, the master of the soap, leads a GIANT PIE FIGHT. Click here to see more info about this and other events at Mooseburger Clown Arts Camp.
