Circus Report July 2015
Here is a cute picture of the circus clowns making the most of a bad situation!
Yep, that’s an industrial cooler for ice.
Mooseburger Clown Camp alum Brian Wright has the RIGHT idea on how to stay cool!
Julia and DJ are in the middle of a heat wave as the circus is playing in Texas and southern California.
You would think that all the buildings in the south by now would have air conditioning.
But not so.
When I was on tour with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus I remember being in some old buildings that did not have air conditioning. Believe me, it was a real treat running around in our heavy production costumes.
Now they wear the same costume for all the productions, and only change for gags. UGH!
At least back then we got to take off the sweaty ones in hopes they would dry out before we had to put them on again for the next show.
They may have to keep a costume on longer, but at least it gets washed regularly.
Due to all the sequins and rhinestones our production costumes got cleaned only twice a year. And our gag costumes got washed just once a week. Talk about GAG! Pee-yewww!
Now the show travels with their own washers and dryers. Smart!
Hot Weather Tips for Clowns :
- Water, Water, Water! Whether you are on a circus or clowning around in your own neighborhood, it is crucial to stay hydrated.
- Stay away from caffeine and high sugar drinks.
- Start loading up on water the day before for those really hot performances so you can stay cool.
- And as a wise old clown told me when I first started clowning… “When you can’t do your best, take a rest!”
Is the circus coming to town?
Here are photos of some friends who showed up for the show:
