Walk-arounds and jokes to use for holiday clown gigs
Elf it up at Christmas
I hope everyone is having a great time leading up to Christmas. If you do double duty as an elf, Santa, or Mrs. Claus you are probably crazy busy right now!
I recently saw some great holiday jokes on Facebook. Whether you are a holiday character or not, they are fun and sure to get you a smile (or a groan)!!!
Here is my personal favorite string of knock knock jokes:
Elf me wrap these presents for Santa.
Holly up and elf me wrap these presents for Santa!
Yule be sorry if you don’t holly up and elf me wrap these presents for Santa!!!!!!
LOL! I’m still chuckling about that one!!!!
Here are some clown friends using their skills as other holiday characters:
Sorry I don’t have a picture of me elf-ing it up at the recent Christmas in Maple Lake. But I did come up with a new bit.
I had a bag of reindeer antlers on headbands. I was looking for volunteers to be “back up reindeer” in case Santa’s team got tired. I had them try on the antlers (great photo op by the way for weary parents!) and shook their “hoof” as I welcomed them into the crew of Reindeer Volunteer First Class. I told them that since they knew their neighborhood they could really help out if need be. …Just in case, of course!
It was a great ice-breaker! I also had some snowflake headbands for little girls who would rather want to be a Snow Princess.
Lines for Santa can be long and boring for kids and stressful for parents. Keeping their mind off how long they have been waiting keeps everyone happy!
Make Santa’s Naughty List
You can’t go wrong with the Naughty List! Mine is made out of fabric and dowel rods. But you can make a quick one out of wrapping paper and cardboard tubes!
Write “NAUGHTY LIST” in big letters. Then put two different names on the list. Use a middle name, too. You don’t want a child to worry because they see their name was on the list. Use an initial for a last name to really be safe. Then a few squiggles of lines under them as if there were more names on the list.
I added a new twist this year when one of the kids mentioned that you couldn’t read all the names! I shrugged my shoulders looked at the parents and cited privacy laws. HR is a real stickler about that now a days. Parents laughed!
I tel the kids, “You are checking the list for Santa”. Their parents end up being the suspects. Especially Dad. I say “There still is some time, can you keep an eye on him for me?” Kids love that, too!
Happy New Year
It’s time to celebrate! Even if to only say we made another trip around the sun! Christmas and all holidays can be stressful. I will save you the lecture on how grateful we all should be. That frankly is just insulting. I know how loving and giving all of you are!!!!
But sometimes life gets overwhelming. Sometimes it just is sad this time of year. It is okay to be sad. As we get older we miss love ones, perhaps traditions fade or change. It gets harder to handle all the stress.
So this is my Christmas and holiday wish for you. Take a little time to be good to yourself. Put down the list, go for a walk, take a deep breath. Know that others are feeling the same way. It’s okay, this will pass.
If you can, give someone a complement they don’t expect. It’s an easy way to pass on some cheer.
Know I am sending you all a great big hug!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, my friends.
