2020 Moose Newz!
This will be the year of 2020 vision jokes and Roaring 20’s theme parties. How do I know? Because I am also in the costume rental business and the requests are coming in for flapper and gangster costumes! The new year is also a time for new year’s resolutions. I am not real big on them, most folks have already stumbled on their resolutions and given up! What I did learn in 2019 with the untimely death of my dear brother-in-law is that we only get one breath at a time. Not one day, one breath. How do we want to use that breath is the question.
This year instead of making lists of goals, and to do lists I want to focus on what I can do today. I won a fun mug at our Clown Around Christmas party! “it’s a good day to have a good day” is printed on the side. Yes, it is. That will be my resolution for 2020. Let’s have a good day. Having a good day is not focusing on what I was not able to get done yesterday. It’s about what I can get done today….like writing this newsletter!
This year I want to be a better clown, by just enjoying the time I have to clown. Now for me it is not as much as I would like. I am too busy running a clown costuming company and clown arts education program, and non profit for clowns……to clown! LOL! That’s actually pretty funny when you come to think of it! So why would you listen to me? I try to be honest with my struggles. Truth be told, we all struggle, we all are a little too hard on ourselves, and in turn can be hard on those around us. So my answer is, just go out there and have some fun. Clown fun, spread joy, swing a rubber chicken, tell a silly joke, wear a funny hat, do a little jig. This isn’t rocket science people, this is clowning.
Sometimes the bits we do will fall flat. It’s ok, try again. Put your heart into it. Don’t be afraid. You may run into someone who doesn’t like clowns. So what? Their loss, just think of the fun they are missing. Don’t let it stop you from having fun and spreading joy to all those people who do like us! This year I want to try one new thing. I want to have the courage to bring a puppet with me to a Red Nose Reader program. I want a bunny puppet because bunnies don’t make any sounds. Wouldn’t that be kind of funny to bring a silent friend along and ask them to read to the kids! I think it could work. He is too shy to read, or is afraid of big words.
Do you have something you have always wanted to try? Now I am not saying write your own show. I mean one little trick or bit. Do it. Give it a try. No matter how it turns out, failing is better than doing nothing. Failing means you tried! Give yourself permission to try.
On a bigger scale is there something you always wanted to do? Maybe come to Mooseburger Camp? This would be a good year. I can promise you a hilarious roaring 20’s theme party, a wonderful special guest star Randy Christianson, and a new and improved schedule! Lots of people tell me that it is on their bucket list to come to camp. Ok I hope this is your year.
Write it down and put it on the refrigerator or bathroom mirror. If you see it every day you are more apt to act on it! Tell a friend (heck I just told a thousand of my friends!) goals are more achievable if you have support. Don’t be afraid to fail. Thomas Edison had it right. “I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” You gotta love that guy!!! So remember this do what you can where you are at. You will be glad you did.
Looking back on 2019 there were a lot of things going on! We had a clown summit at Mooseburger Camp, the Red Nose Reader non-profit was born and launched, I traveled to numerous conventions and events, and best of all saw my clown friends from all over the globe! What will 2020 bring? Who knows, but I am sure it will be a wild ride.
