December 2008

Hi folks!  Since I’m still on the road during the time that this newsletter is put together, I’ve asked a great friend and fellow Moose Camp staff member, Sweet Connie, to write December’s article.  Last month, her clown alley had a wonderful opportunity to put their Moose Camp training to use in a whole different way. I knew it would provide a great example of how you can use your clowning skills in a totally new dimension!  Bravo, Bricktown Clown Alley, Bravo!

In love and Laughter!

Foolin’ with the Philharmonic

Greetings from Oklahoma!  Tricia asked me to share with you the INCREDIBLE experience the Bricktown Clown Alley Officers just had with the OKC Philharmonic on November 2, 2008.

The general manager of the OKC Philharmonic Orchestra contacted me the end of September and asked if we could provide them with some “clowns” for their upcoming kids’ concert with a circus theme.  Of course I said “YES!” and then called the alley officers together for a pow-wow.  Three of the officers have attended Moose Camp so I knew if we all put our heads together; we could come up with something absolutely incredible.

Standing with conductor Bob Moody are Ron, Angie, Michele and Connie

So, after I received a CD of the music, we brainstormed ideas & decided that the BEST skit/routine for the four minute selection entitled “Dance of the Buffoons” would be Moose Camp’s very own DETOUR!  I placed a call to Tricia for the dimensions of the Detour sign and she gave me the GREAT idea to have a user friendly sign – one that could easily break down & transport and had more than one use.  We came up with a PVC pipe frame & covered it with orange fabric with black lettering.  The lining would be black & could later double as a puppet stage.  SWEET!

Second piece we performed to was the “Sabre Dance” and the routine involved Angie, Michele and me taking turns juggling silk scarves and when it came Ron’s turn to juggle, he tried to remove his gloves & then produced Tricia’s long glove.  Loads of fun!

Final number was a March, “Love of the Three Oranges” and we performed a little comedy routine with the orchestra’s mascot, a Penguin named Phil.

>

We also did a 50 minute “meet & greet” set in the lobby of the Civic Center prior to the performance and gave the kids free bubble baths, passed out stickers, and had lots of photo-ops with the audience.   After the performance, we all made our way back to the lobby for good-bys and answered lots of questions such as “Where did you go behind the sign” and “Where did you get those shopping bags?”

We’ve been invited back in March for Phil the Penguin’s Birthday concert.  We can’t wait!  Woo-hoo!

MOOSE  CAMP  MONEY!

Have you been dreaming about the chance to go to Mooseburger Clown Arts Camp, but just can’t scrape the money together?  Well, luckily for you, there are plenty of opportunities for financial aide!

Ralph Pounder Memorial Scholarship

Bo Dino Scholarship

COAI Education Scholarship

Aside from the three scholarships listed above, there are other avenues for finding funds.  Be creative!  Ask if your clown club has a sponsored program or matching funds support.  Perhaps your clown club would be willing to hold a bake sale or fundraiser to help send you to Moose Camp.  Does your local chapter of ISCA (Shriners) offer a scholarship? Ask your family and friends for “Moose Money” for Christmas gifts this year.

Do you do clowning with hospitals or fire safety programs?  Ask your program director if there are funds available for professional education/training.  If not, urge them to start one!

Is clowning your main source of income and do you belong to your local Chamber of Commerce?  Perhaps they have a grant they give to local business owners for improvements to their company – hey, what better investment for your business could you make than a week of training at Moose Camp?  Maybe they have a low-interest loan for folks who own their own business – you never know until you ask!

Good luck and we’ll see you this summer!

NEW Items!

THANK YOU to all the readers who sent in their votes last month for their favorite wig.  Click here for the link to November’s newsletter in case you missed it.   Can you believe it?!  We had a 3 WAY TIE for the #1 spot:

“Spiky” Wig  $23.00

Rock star?  Clown mullet?  Video game character?  Call it whatever you want, this fun wig is simple and muss-free.  Gel-coated top makes it super pointy!  Great alternative style for men who don’t want a big curly wig.

Comes in 7 colors: Fuchsia (shown), Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Royal Blue, and Regular Purple.

“Wispy” Wig  $32.00

What a diva! This deluxe wig has lots of loose curly waves.  Looks kinda like Marilyn Monroe, doesn’t it?  There are no annoying bangs to get in your eyes, and the short length means it won’t get matted quickly.  A cute look would be to pull some strands up into perky pom-pom ponytails on top.  Or, style the front strands into little braids and secure them in back with a big fun bow.

Comes in 9 colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Apple Green, Sky Blue, Royal Blue, Light Purple, Regular Purple, and Hot Pink.

“Lil Lucy” Wig  $20.00

Cute as a button!  This adorable wig has a little flip at the ends and curved bangs.  You may need to trim the bangs before you wear it, just in case they hang in your makeup.

Comes in 10 colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Apple Green, Emerald Green, Sky Blue, Royal Blue, Light Purple, Regular Purple, and Hot Pink.

All three of these wigs will now be added to our online shopping cart.  They will be “Special Order” wigs for a short trial period and then -- depending on how popular they become -- we will make them regular stock items.  Just in case you’re wondering, “Special Order” means that an item is not normally in stock (figure about 7 – 10 days transit time), and it does not qualify for a return or an exchange.

Thanks again for your help in making decisions and bringing new items to Pricilla Mooseburger Originals.  We appreciate you exercising your patriotic duty to vote!

SALES!

SAVE $100 on this new 5-Piece Men’s Outfit!

We designed this handsome pedestrian-style (“Lite Auguste”) clown costume a while back, but folks seemed to have passed it over in favor of the brighter primary-colored items on our rack.  And what a shame that is!  Well, now YOU can pick up the great deal that passed right under their noses.  You can have this sturdy, sharp-looking suit for a fraction of the cost AND we’ll give you FREE Shipping & Handling* to boot!

Sale includes: Line Plaid Pants, Black Button-on Suspenders, Cream Short-Sleeve Shirt, Plaid and Black Lined Vest, and Snap-on Bow Tie.  Entirely machine washable. The pants are really high-waisted, which means it will prevent a gap of white shirt showing between the vest and pants, but it also gives it a funny nerdy look.  Great for a character clown who is a stuffy know-it-all or an upper-crust twit – doctors, professors, golfers, or any character clown who enjoys wearing a snazzy suit!

DETAILS:

  • Poly-Cotton Blend Plaid of Chestnut Brown, Olive Green, and Black is completely machine washable.
  • Vest has 6 pockets (2 outside, 4 inside); Pants have 5 pockets (4 outside, 1 security inside).
  • Easy Velcro front opening for shirt and vest; Zipper fly for pants.
  • Vest is Plaid in the front and Black in the back; features cloth ties in the back to give a more fitted look.
  • Suspenders are buttoned-on, so your pants stay up and the waist-band lasts longer.
  • Short-sleeved for indoor Winter performances and outdoor Summer performances.  Keep your cool!
  • Shirt has brown satin trim on sleeve hems and collar edges – very dressy.
  • Big sturdy plastic buttons have a faux wood finish – great detail!

MEASUREMENTS: If your body matches these dimensions, then this outfit will fit you and still leave some wiggle room for stuffing the pockets with great gizmos and props

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

December is a busy month for everyone I know. It is full of hustle and bustle, stress and excitement. A time for family, friends and frenzy! I encourage you all to take a step back and remember what is most important this time of year. It really is the simple things that mean the most: a well-timed phone call; a quick note or card in the mail; patience with an overwhelmed mall clerk.

I am consciously working on taking time to enjoy the Christmas season. That takes forethought and planning. Mostly it takes saying "no" to things that are not important.

May God bless you all and here’s wishing you the happiest holiday season from everyone here at Mooseburger’s!

Fondly,

Pricilla
