Welcome to Pricilla Mooseburger Originals!

This is the maiden voyage of our Historical Hobbyist newsletter, "Mooseburger Musings". I hope to bring information to you that you can put to use in your reenactments, rendezvous, or other historical hobbies and money-making ventures. I will also be reprinting recipes, instructional how-to's and articles (with permission, of course) which will be informative or enlightening to history fanatics like us. We may even be offering coupons or discounts on monthly specials!

And what use would a newsletter like this be if it didn't address your needs and interests? We welcome you to be a part of this newsletter by sending us topics you would like to read more about. Or perhaps you have a question about facets of the reenactment lifestyle? Well, simply send me a note and I'll see what I can do to get the information for you. I would love to make this newsletter 100% applicable to your needs as a historical hobbyist, but I can only do that if you tell me what you want!

Why are we doing this?

My background is in Social Studies Secondary Education, so I have a real passion for what we are trying to do as reenactors. I starting attending rendezvous and doing reenactments with my daughter five years ago and got hooked. Shortly afterward, I suggested that we add a historical line of clothing to our costume company, Pricilla Mooseburger Originals. This was met with much excitement by our graphic artist, Katie (a SCAdian and Ren-Festie), and our designer, Mary, who really needed a challenge after making children's entertainer costumes for more than a decade. So we loaded Mary up with a ton of books that give her detailed instructions on the authenticity, construction, fabrics, and everything she would ever want to know about historical clothing. Mary's attitude is, "if it's not worth doing right, it's not worth doing at all."

So if you find yourself in need of just the basics like a shirt or chemise, or something more custom like a capote or ball gown, we can get it done for you. We carry a lot of items in stock, but we love to do custom work. We can create almost any article of clothing from any century. Check out our shopping pages for examples.

In coming newsletters you will find specials that will not be offered anywhere else by our company. So get your friends to sign up…or you can just keep it to your selves and have people complementing you on your great outfit. We, of course, would prefer you share this newsletter.
We are excited to have you as a reader, and we look forward to bringing you in to the Mooseburger family - welcome!

Be well,
Sheri Nichols

Nichols' Notes:

It's almost March; the big winter holidays are over. Now you are in the process of cleaning out old files, changing fire alarm batteries, going through your wardrobe, and all the other annual tasks needed to be done around the house. What about your historical wardrobe? When was the last time you took a good look at what you are wearing? Is it period correct? Does it still fit or has it "shrunk"? Are you missing pieces? Maybe there was something you've been meaning to make or buy and just didn't get around to it until the season was over. Well…don't put off until next fall what you can do today!

Take an hour and really assess what you have in your wardrobe. Get rid of those items which are in such disrepair that even our frugal ancestors wouldn't attempt to repair them! Make sure you have all the pieces you need for an outfit. Maybe you are missing a petticoat or two. Is there a piece you have been really wanting? Plan to make that purchase now before you begin your spending at the events you are attending. We all know planning ahead is the right way to make a purchase. Need a custom piece? Now is the time to start the process. Keep in mind that it takes 6-8 weeks at Pricilla Mooseburger Originals for an outfit to be constructed once you have agreed to the design. By ordering it now, you'll have it in time for the 2008 Spring season.

To give you an idea of how we live while at camp during a rendezvous, here are some pictures. The little guy is my grandson, Isaac. His clothing was a shower gift from Mary our designer, authentic from the tip of his bonnet to the toe of his beaded moccasins (even the diaper clout)! Oh yes, we believe in starting them early. We hope you enjoy the coming season as much as we will!
